A Sphinx, shaped in stone.

An original procedural 3D interpretation inspired by the Great Sphinx at Giza, presented at an interpretive gallery scale.

Model & scale

The lion body is a baked, indexed surface generated from blended three-dimensional forms. Eroded limestone beds, fissures, and toe grooves are cut into the mesh. The face, headdress, tail, and bevelled stone blocks are modeled geometry. No scan, downloaded Sphinx model, or photographic plane is used.

One scene unit represents one gallery metre. The study is approximately 12 m long and 6.5 m high; these are artistic dimensions, not a surveyed reconstruction of Giza.

Material & light

The limestone texture is generated locally from seeded noise, mineral speckles, and pitting. World-space mapping keeps its grain density continuous across parts; small vertex relief and a fine bump finish supplement the carved geometry. No photographic or AI-generated texture assets are used.

Fixed gallery lights, one camera lens, and the same model scale are used throughout. Shadows are cast by the actual geometry, rather than painted into the texture.

Three detail-distance renders
